Washington City in the 1830's

Sarah Vedder's family moved to Washington City in the early 1800s. She walked to school passing the Adams, Sousa and Andrew Jackson homes. She offers an intriguing glimpse of our home nearly 200 years. Includes photos and drawings.

Higgins Fueling Station

Tucked under the the east-most extension of the Watergate West building is Higgins Fueling Station. Higgins opened it's doors for business in 1930. The station is situated on National Park Service land. Higgens came into being as the increasing number of city drivers sought more convienent fueling stations.

Alice DeAngelo, an Early ResidentAlice was one of the first to become a resident of Watergage East. She contributed endless hours to make our fledgling cooperative community into a functioning "Watergate Towne."
